    Jordan faces major challenges including destabilization – Nasser Shraideh

    Nasser Shraideh, Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, presented Jordan’s 2nd Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Shraideh attended the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) meeting at the UN headquarters in New York, where he chaired the Jordanian delegation, according to a Planning Ministry statement.

    Jordan faces major challenges including destabilization - Nasser ShraidehIn the time since the first review in 2017, Jordan has faced several major challenges, such as destabilization in the Middle East, 1.3 million Syrian refugees, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which have negatively impacted levels of development and growth, causing high unemployment rates, low foreign direct investment, supply chain disruptions, and increasing costs of energy, food, and other essential commodities.

    In addition to following-up and reviewing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the global level, the HLPF is the main United Nations platform on sustainable development. Under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, the Forum meets annually for eight days, including a three-day ministerial session, and every four years under the auspices of the General Assembly for two days.
